Electric Land Speed Record Holder
As a man who has held the electric land speed record for more than 10 years, Don Walesis arguably the ideal competitor to take part in theRAC Future Car Challenge.
Wales, who is the nephew of Donald Campbell CBE and grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell, has been maintaining the Campbell record-breaking tradition since establishing the UK Land Speed Record for an electric car in 2000 in his vehicle Bluebird, at a speed of 137mph. Audi A5 DTM
A month after its unveiling at the Frankfurt International Motor Show the Audi A5 DTM will make its first public appearance on a DTM weekend. Audi factory driver Tom Kristensen will present the new 460-HP race car for the 2012 season to the fans at Hockenheim. The eight-time Le Mans winner and former DTM racer will be driving a show lap in the brand new coupe before and after the DTM race on Sunday. [Read more…]

General Motors Volt
Governments’ hugely expensive plans to induce motorists to convert from vehicles driven by fossil fuels to those powered by electricity have become a farce.
In the US only about 3 per cent of people planning to buy a new car would even consider General Motors’ highly-publicized Volt, only a few thousand of which have been sold since it was launched last December. Not surprising, really, considering that even after a federal subsidy of $7,500, the Volt has a sticker price of $41,000 and gets only 56 kms on a single battery charge. [Read more…]

Classic Car of the Year
The deadline for this year’s Classic Car of the Year competition has been extended to allow the judges more time to go through the diverse entrants who hope to become the UK’s Classic Car of the Year 2011. Cars entered so far range from a 1976 Austin Maxi 1750 to a 1961 Mercedes Benz 190SL, a Lancia Delta HF Integrale thats used on a daily basis and a Triumph Herald that has been in the family for three generations and is still going strong.
